What are veneers?
A veneer is a very thin ceramic shell bonded to the front of a tooth. Veneers can cover chips, cracks, stains that whitening can’t fix, small gaps and teeth that are slightly out of line. (to be confirmed)
What to expect
- Planning. Your dentist checks your teeth and gums and talks with you about the look you want, and whether veneers, bonding or a crown is the better fit.
- Preparing the teeth. A thin layer is usually removed from the front of each tooth so the veneer sits naturally. This step can’t be undone.
- Placing the veneers. After the lab makes your veneers, your dentist checks the fit and color and bonds them in place.
Veneers, bonding or crowns?
- Bonding uses tooth-colored material shaped right on the tooth — usually quicker and less costly, for smaller fixes.
- Veneers cover the front surface for a more complete change to shape and color.
- Crowns cover the whole tooth when it needs protection as well as a new look.
Cost
Veneers are usually considered cosmetic, so insurance often doesn’t cover them. We’ll give you an estimate before you decide.
